Dear colleagues, Due to circumstances, the fifth lecture of the Leuven Archaeological Research Seminar (LARS) will not take place this Thursday 3 March 2011 but is rescheduled to Thursday 7 April 2011. When? Thursday 7 April 2011 Time? 16.00 - 17.00 hours Where? Katholieke Universiteit Leuven Monseigneur Sencie-Institute 01.08 Erasmusplein 2 3000 Leuven ----------- War of the Lords: The Battle of Chronology Trying to recognize historical iconography in the 3rd millennium glyptic art: Ishqi-Mari and Beydar Sealings Drs. Anne-Sophie Van Vyve Katholieke Universiteit Leuven As textual information on the third quarter of the third millennium is rather scarce, attention must turn to other means to understand the past. Glyptic art makes out a great part of the material evidence left to us from this era and thus it can provide valuable information concerning several layers of society. One of those layers concerns military events. Three different sealings from Mari and Beydar have been studied in detail. In accordance with similar imagery on other bearers, like steles or reliefs, new interpretations regarding the historic value of military scenes on glyptic art are presented. ----------- Hope to see you on Thursday 7 April 2011 at 16.00h in MSI 01.08! Our sincerest apologies, LARS (Rick Bonnie, Jonas Danckers, Rinse Willet)
